she walked past starbucks. she could see the shuttle, so she hurried her steps. missing the shuttle would mean another thirty minutes of waiting in the cold. thoughts were buzzing in her head, her mind working hard. her housemate just called, telling her to come home soon. they invited friends over for dinner, and she had to be back in ten minutes to heat up food and arrange the table. she kept her eyes on the shuttle, moving forward, not really looking to the people she passed. she was passing by buck a book when she heard the voice.
"hi baby."
then,
"salaam..."
what would you have done if you were her? she kept her eyes forward and kept on moving. she pretended she didn't hear the greeting, didn't even looked back to see the face of her well-wisher. she was almost positive it was a black male.
the next day, she was there again. she always had something to do in the area. she was again walking towards the shuttle waiting place, when she saw a black guy walking in her direction. she didn't really pay him him much attention, she had no reason to. and then, when they passed each other, she heard him,
"you're pretty."
again, she walked straight past the stranger, pretending not to hear him. she didn't think that was a compliment she much appreaciate. if anything, she grew paranoid by these accidents. she didn't think she's a walking sexual pbject that people can just harrass everytime it suited them. was there something wrong with her? or was it the other people?
