Friday, August 27, 2004 @ I can see the moon from my window
Alas, the cat thing didn't fall through, again. No more quests, we've had enough heartbreaks as it is.

Nothing much happening this week. Richard's away on vacation, so it's been pretty hectic at work. I'm not working that many hours though, so I get to come home early and then... do nothing. Most of the time anyways. When I'm feeling productive, I do get enough motivation to find things to do. Believe me, there's plenty to do when you put your head into it.

Change the light bulb, go to OSA, order pics on RitzPix, call Cedrone x5496, mail W9, activate card, confirm flight, pay phone bill, and figure what to make for Sat.

Monday, August 23, 2004 @ No clouds in the sky
Such a fine weather today. Went to Plum Island with D and D. We left home a little after 5 am and got there just in time to catch the last bit of sunrise. Walked on the beach, took pictures, drove around and had breakfast. It was beautiful up there, had a very nice time.

Yesterday, Saturday, was a very lazy day. Woke up late, went out to do grocery, and by the time we got back, it was raining like rain's supposed to be. Watched Gods Must Be Crazy I and II, the second one is much funnier than the first.

Friday, went out to dinner to celebrate Diah's birthday. Kingfish Hall down in Quincy Market was our destination. It's a bit on the expensive side, but the food is excellent, so it was worth every penny. Since it was her day, Diah had the call to do whatever she liked. We came home to watch "Under the Tuscan Sun". Suffice to say, a few people found it hard to appreciate such "chick flick". After the guys left, the triplet of D's and I stayed up to talk about a million different things. Diah surrended early, but Dewi, Mbak Pi and I went on talking till 3:30 am. It was fun, been a while since I did something like that.

Now, I'm hungry, and lunch is ready, so...

Oh, by the way, pictures above courtesy of D and D, and the whole thing wouldn't have been possible were it not for Diah's expertise with Adobe Photoshop.

Friday, August 20, 2004 @ "When does dignity end and rectitude begin?"
"Husbands are expected to be like money--influential, but silent."

I wish I can do a poll, see how many people would agree to that statement.

Can't wait to go to Chicago. It'd be nice if I run into people I know, too, there. I'm so horrible at keeping in touch with friends, it's only at events like this ISNA Conference that I'd have a chance catching up with old friends.

E-mailed Paddy to see if she can get me a few things from home. What's on my list? Deodorant, toothpaste and Twisties. Sad, huh. What can I say, life's pretty straight without Twisties!
:)

Thursday, August 19, 2004 @ Diah's birthday
You can tell what an amazing person Diah is by the amount of phone calls and e-mails she has received today. We all love our Dida :)

Wednesday, August 18, 2004 @

Diah made shammi kabab yesterday, and I couldn't resist the opportunity to make a few hearts out of them :) We ate our hearts out.

... was yesterday.

Monday, August 16, 2004 @ Take a risk, take a chance, make a change, and breakaway
Watched Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. It's a cute movie, definitely catered for kids. It's kinda fun watching movie with a bunch of kids around you, they laugh so easily, and you can't help but laugh along.

The stupid phone is working fine now. I found out all I had to do was take out the battery and put it back in again. Duh.

The latch to the memory card compartment on my Canon is broken. I gotta get that fixed, although I think I'll wait till after our Chicago trip. They say it'll take 2 weeks to ship in the replacement door.

Working at the Media Center Monday and Wednesday this week.

Mbak Pi's out visiting TJ. I should have gone with her, I don't know what to do with myself now.

Sunday, August 15, 2004 @
My stupid phone is broken, so don't anyone go and try calling me. I can't access the phonebook and I can't make or receive calls. Stupid phone.

@ Pakistan's Independence Day
Neel slept over last night, and I got to sleep in the cooler room :)

Mbak Pi and I went up to Maine for lunch. Cape Elizabeth with its rocky beach and lighthouse is beautiful. We had lobster and crabmeat rolls and they were delicious. Brought one back for Diah too, but it was soaking wet by the time we took it out from the cooler when we reached home. The ice bag leaked *shrug*

Last Friday we went to see kittens in Malden. They're so pretty, but skittish around people. Hopefully we'll be able to bring one home soon.

Tried the creme caramel that we made yesterday, it was heavenly :p~~~

I'm tired. Might just go to bed soon, eventhough it's still early.

Saturday, August 14, 2004 @ Second summer session ends
Tomorrow's a big day for a lot of people - MCAT. I hope they all do well.

Cut my hair today. Short. Short short. Really short. I don't think anyone thought I would go through with it, not even myself. The last time I had hair this short was probably when I was 14. The front part barely covers my ears and the back is above the collar level. It's gonna take some time getting used to.

Went to Sharon today, with Unaza and Usman. Met some interesting people.

Talked to Noureddine last night, for more than an hour. I was really surprised, didn't realize I was capable of doing that. It was a good conversation, cleared up a few things and what not.

I wish I have a real journal to write in. I've been eyeing this book at the Media Center that looks like it has some potential to be a good journal. It's just some old book that we piled up in a corner, but maybe I can cover it up, and paste a few things, or whatever. Just haven't had a chance to pick it up yet.

Zamir called last week, saying he's back in town. I haven't heard from Anand for a while, and haven't seen Suhaimi for a while. It'll be nice to go out and chill with them one of these days.

Weather's been really crappy. Not horrible, just crappy.

Somebody definitely got an invitation today, if I ever heard one. It's so out of the blue, so I-never-would-have-thought-possible.

Went to dinner at India Castle. We tried going to Ali's Roti Wrap, but it was closed already. Unaza's friend Adrienne, is really sweet. They both are.

Unaza brought her eggs and milk over, and we made more creme caramel. The anticipation of it leaves my mouth to water *sigh*

Olympic's on today. I was reminded of the Olympic Day Run, where Myn won tons of Coke, in containers of every shape and size imaginable.

Thursday, August 12, 2004 @ What do you do....
.... when you think something good is about to happen, and you're all excited about it, but you can't tell anyone 'coz you don't want to jinx it? (who comes up with this jinxing thing anyway?)

.... when you really want to talk to someone but you can't 'coz you're not sure how they feel about talking to you?

.... when you have a stuffed pet that needs washing but you can't put it in the washing machine 'coz it's only surface washable?

I like the way this skin looks in Netscape better than the way it looks in IE.

School's about to start. At the Media Center, professors are starting to come in to reserve videos, and paperworks are mounting. My IR advisor is here right now looking through the collections to find films for her freshman seminar.

Everytime I think about school, I think about hundreds of things I have to take care of. So many thoughts racing through my head, that I just have to stop thinking about it, for fear it will overwhelm me. I'm trying to take a day at a time, take care of things on my list to do one by one, crossing one off after another as I go down the list. Although, I feel like I'm running out of time.

Freshmen. There's a horde of them already on campus. I don't know why they get here so early, but they certainly seem excited to be here.

Just for the record, I have never used someone else's toothbrush (other than my siblings', perhaps) to brush my teeth :P

@ I'm gonna wash that man outta my hair
Naming your cats Tahini, Tabouli and Baba Ganoush is really a cute idea.
Paying $50,000 to get cats you can name Tahini, Tabouli and Baba Ganoush is a crazy idea.

Monday, August 09, 2004 @ Woh kaun tha...??
I can't imagine Mbak Pi's kids suffering from malnourishment of any kind; she's such a great cook that you can't help but gobble down everything she makes. Lamb stew and creme caramel for dinner, I even cancelled a dinner date (thank God for understanding friends) to make sure I could eat at home :) What can I say, I love good food. And it only follows that I love Mbak Pi.

Huma was in town, she came in late Thursday night and left this morning. It was nice to see her again, I've definitely missed her. We went out for dinner and karaoke on Friday, and on Saturday they came over for dinner and poker.

I was surprised to discover that I'm pretty competitive when it comes to poker. On other occasions, I usually manage to stay calm no matter what the guys say to get me worked up, but last night I got riled pretty easily. So much for keeping a "poker face". Anways, I promise myself that in future events I'm going to keep a cool head.

We had an ICC meeting this morning, Shaq and Unaza joined in too. D, Unaza and I went to Al-Hooda to replenish our meat supply (it was depleted after feeding 7 people last night). We came home and Unaza made some yummy strawberry-banana smoothie. Then we had lunch while watching Hidalgo. Such a productive day :P

Friday, August 06, 2004 @ The object of my affection...

Well, who else do you expect? Did I not say that they look so much alike? Hehehe...

Thursday, August 05, 2004 @ Don't mess with the 'fro
Seriously thinking of hacking off my hair. I'm getting tired of going through the routine everyday - brush, tie, braid, tie, pin and later unpin, untie, unbraid, untie, detangle.

I got goosebumps when looking at Usman's pictures. I have similar pictures in my collection, only with different individuals in them. Some of them look like they were taken at same exact spots. And it hit me how old these places are, this world is, and how many people they have seen throughout these years. Makes me think of how insignificant I am, except to Him.

Saw Dance of a Dream, not particularly that excellent, but I haven't watched a Hong Kong movie for a very long time. Shaolin Soccer, that's what I really want to watch.

I don't think anyone else would cry watching the Village, but me. It's just this one scene, that's so well-written, well-constructed, well-acted, it really moved me *sigh*

Ek din achanak, I don't feel anything anymore. Not happy, not sad, not excited, not bored, just... nothing.

School's starting soon. Went to the bookstore today and it's filled with back-to-school stuff.

Wednesday, August 04, 2004 @ This life is too short, don't spend it displeasing God
Been watching too many movies. I feel like for every 3 movies I watch, only one can be considered good.

Good movies:
1.. The Station Agent is good, very original.
2.. Ciao, Professor is funny.
3.. Also watched a semi-documentary that follows the lives of 2 women in the West Bank. Can't recall the title, ..something.. Memory. It was worth watching, although it took place in 1980, before the second intifada, so I'm sure the situation there is no longer the same.

Bad movies:
1.. The Chateau has awful picture.
2.. Happenstance is the most humorless movie I've ever watched.
3.. ABCD was awful.
4.. Dirty Dancing Havana Night was a waste of time.

So-so movies:
1.. Sullivan's Travel.

Richard's birthday today.

Finally found a TV series to follow during the summer, Stargate Atlantis. Every Friday, 10:00pm. I'm such a dork.

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 @ They buy your dreams so they can steal your soul
Now you can really feel the heat of summer. D and D sleep in the air-conditioned room and I sleep with the fan over my head.

Really have to call home one of these days, it's been way too long.

Have to remember to change the bulb in my room tomorrow.

After a few tries, I think we're finally going to let go of the idea of the cat. He just doesn't have that in His plans for us right now. Not meant to happen. Just have to be thankful that we at least have Huzzie.

Huma's in Med school down in NJ and Muz starting work in NYC next week. Time flies.

Sunday, August 01, 2004 @ Stupid cupid
I actually turned on my computer after 4 days.

I don't really feel like writing anymore. It's becoming a task, not something that I just feel like doing on impulse. I want to write, only it's becoming harder to find things to write about.

I wonder if anyone from high school still remember how to sing the PKBM(L) song. I found it on the internet, goes on like this:

Semboyan Angkatan Laut kita
Di Samudera Raya
Menjaga pantai ibu pertiwi
Dari Angkara Murka

Dari barat sampai ke timur
itulah Pantai Malaysia
tiap saat berjaga
di tengah Samudera Raya

Perwira dan Satria
Angkatan Laut DiRaja

The words are familiar, but the melody just wouldn't come. Funny that I should remember how to sing Suci Dalam Debu and Def-Gab-C's Ibu Kota Cinta but not the song. (BTW, if anyone has either of the songs, would you be as kind to send it to me? It'll be much appreciated.)

Went to see Shyamalan's The Village at Boston Common. First showing, 10:25am, $3.50. Went for lunch at Legal Seafood. Free appetizer and dessert. Some of us are just meant to be frugal creatures.
