Friday, January 30, 2004 @ (^^)?
was going to write about something but now i forgot what.
my license arrived today. finally managed to get into the blackboard site.
talked to my brother yesterday, nice to know everyone will be home this weekend. almost forgot that eid is coming up, better get myself a phonecard. this is going to sound insane, but i've spend more than $600 on phonecards since i came here. it does sound like a lot of money, eh?
downloaded a calendar onto my desktop, it's really neat, definitely helps with reminding me of things to do.
Thursday, January 29, 2004 @ love
people we love can say some really hurtful things.
i'm going to have to drop the leadership and citizenship class. a real shame really, it's an extremely interesting class. only not worth the investment.
ok, lets try to figure this out. if i'm to join neel and co. for spring break, i have to start saving money from now. transportation alone costs close to $800. to be safe, i need to make sure i have at least $1200. and if i am to go on the roadtrip in june, i need at least $400 for that. i have to work my arse off this semester. work at the media center while taking one class during the first summer session. i have to figure where to fit an internship in between all this. next year, i will still need to save up money for graduation. eeekkk.
Wednesday, January 28, 2004 @ new hampshire primary
john kerry topped the new hampshire primary. hana just got back from there, got some good pictures with her too. i never realized kerry has a hunk for a son. only his daughter has ever been here.
watched adaptation with neel. that is one messed up, twisted, good movie. it's about a scriptwriter who strives to write a really simple script but ends up tangled into one heck of a complicated drama. moral of the movie: "you are what you love, not what loves you."
@ tuna casserole?
i have no idea what the guys are making in the kitchen downstairs, but it smells strongly like urine. eurgh.
"Two Points For Honesty"
Guster
If that's all you will be, you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams, none seem to stick in your mind
Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that nobody cares at all
I want to be where I've never been before
I want to be there and then I'd understand
Know I'm right and do it right, could I get to be like that
I'll know what I don't know with nothin more to gain
Will I get better or stay the same
I find I always move to slowly
Can't lift a finger, can't change my mind
I never knew till someone told me that...
If that's all you will be, you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams, none seem to stick in your mind
Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that nobody cares at all
And all the people who've seen it all before
And all the people who really understand
Know they're right, and have done it right, could I get to be like that
I'll know what I don't know, it's harder everyday
Can't lift a finger, can't hurt a fly
I've found I always move too slowly
One things for certain, I'm insecure
I never knew till someone told me that....
If that's all you will be, you'll be a waste of time
You've dreamed a thousand dreams, none seem to stick in your mind
Two points for honesty
It must make you sad to know that nobody cares at all
Nobody cares at all
They never care at all
Tuesday, January 27, 2004 @ stupid heater
hana doesn't appreciate me asking if i can push her down the stairs. i don't understand, why ever not? she can always hold on to the railings.
the stupid heater woke me up in the middle of the night. it started making weird noises and being the light sleeper that i am, it was impossible to get back to sleep. i'm sure if i get used to the sound, it won't be a problem. we'll see how tonight goes.
went out for a late dinner at boston shwarma. usman is back in town.
i think i've pretty much decided what i'm going to take this semester. intermediate macro, statistics, int'l finance, and the active citizenship class. i'm on the waitlist for int'l finance, so if i don't get into that, i'll probably do econs of int'l migration. i don't think i can afford doing gamelan anymore from now on.
finally settled all my medical bills from last year with the insurance company. such a hassle. remind me never to get sick again, despite the $150,000 insurance coverage.
my hair, after i washed it the other day, has decided to stay relatively straight. good thing too, since it's nice to have your hair looks different once in a while and i have no patience to straighten it myself.
the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain.
Saturday, January 24, 2004 @ to the sound of: the voice within
a picture of bradley cooper is currently decorating my desktop. huma said he looks like a vampire. for all i care, he can be one and is more than welcome to bite me :D
to amet, burhan, mat din, peja, shah and tiqah - congratulations. best wishes always.
Friday, January 23, 2004 @ driver's license
classes begin today. if i am to stick to my current schedule, thursdays are going to be really hectic, with back to back classes from 9:25 to 4 o'clock.
today i finally had my road test, and passed it. so in a few days, i will have my own government-issued i.d. and no longer have to carry my passport around when i travel. i am ever so grateful to d for being so patient with the whole thing and helping me out.
terima kasih, mbak ayas :)
muz is such a soft-spoken guy, it's a triffle bit disconcerting to hear him raise his voice. just one of those people who you have never seen being angry, and wish you never will, because when they do get angry, all hell break loose.
it's nice to have a full house again.
Saturday, January 17, 2004 @ frigid weather
still have not figure out what classes i really want to take. it's not easy i guess, deciding what classes will contribute most to your whole education experience.
can't say it's been a good week. it started with a really bad pms episode, and then the food poisoning, and then the allergy (twice in a month!), and then the road test that i had to reschedule - which pissed me off so much that i abandoned my diet program, and then the really freaking cold weather, and then the really bad sleeps, and then the realization that school is going to start soon and i'm not prepared for it, and... that's it. duh.
mela's birthday was on the 12th. myn's is tomorrow.
Friday, January 16, 2004 @ below zero
have you ever had a good dream, and then in the middle of it, had a bad one started on the side and spoil the whole thing? happened to me last night - my whole family was enjoying a nice vacation together, and then my brother had to go and cracked his head on the floor. always trust the little brother to be the wet blanket.
Monday, January 12, 2004 @ cold, windy winter
i have to admit that i was wrong - football is not as uncivilized of a game as i once thought it was.
here are some pictures from huma's new sony digital camera.
don't really know what to write about, so till later then.
Thursday, January 08, 2004 @ jerzey
sing to, "i'm lovin' it..." that about describes what i feel about my stay in new jersey currently. i have no idea why huma is so worried about keeping me entertained. dewi and diah seemed to do it naturally, just keep snacks and munchies within arms' reach and the tv on; i'm that easy to please (won't i make a good pet).
i had fun in new york yesterday, a lot of fun. were there from 11 till 7. walked around, had lunch at a spooky theme restaurant, jekyll and hyde, shopped a little bit, goofed around in toys 'r' us and a lot more walking around. it was a lot of fun. i was looking for some harry potter stuff to buy, but other than chocolate frogs and bertie bott's every flavour beans, i couldn't find anything else.
those jelly beans have some really interesting flavours. dirt tastes awful, sardine is just disgusting, truti frutiti is so much fun, and grass really doesn't taste all that bad, neither does earwax. i was disappointed i didn't find any booger in my beans box though ;)
going back up to old boston friday morning. driving test is scheduled for next monday, but weather.com says it's going to snow all week long, so that might just get cancelled.
two more weeks to kill. i'm looking forward to have everyone back in town, but am not looking forward to going to classes again.
Education is when you read the fine print. Experience is what you get if you don't.
what a dilemma. so... should i read or not?
Wednesday, January 07, 2004 @ fun day in the city
huma and i went to new york city today and met up with jehan, muz, and unaza. i'm not in the mood to write down the details, perhaps i'll do it tomorrow.
jehan is leaving for bahrain, for good, this saturday. we said bye to her, of course, before we left the city. it feels quite disheartening (it's the best word i can think of) to say goodbye to someone who has made an impact in your life, perhaps have introduced you to a whole new world, or maybe has affected the way you look at or perceived certain things, and realized that you are most likely to never see them again, and never hear from or about them again. in ten, or maybe even five, years... they will just be somebody you used to know whose name you probably can't even recall. scary.
Tuesday, January 06, 2004 @ new jersey
at huma's house right now, in short hills, new jersey. came down to new york with the greyhound bus and took a train out here.
my poor brother, no one remembered his birthday. i should have called on the day of the occasion :(
my youngest sister started school officially last sunday. it's weird, i felt like it was only yesterday she was still talking baby talks. i miss those years.
my parents are slowly moving things into the new house. my dad has been spending the last couple of weeks cleaning it. instead of three rooms, the new house will have five. i know it's not everyone's fantasy to still be sharing rooms with their siblings when they're 21, but hey, at least i don't have to step over them in the living room every morning anymore.
the old house is going to be empty until it gets repaired. dad wants to turn it into a budget hostel kind of place, but i think a bed and breakfast would be a better prospect. or, i can always live there and enjoy having my own house, one as old as i am :)
syafiq's birthday tomorrow.
Saturday, January 03, 2004 @ happy new year!
two of my brothers were born in january, one on the 2nd and the other on the 6th, but i always forget which brother celebrates his birthday on which date.
watched big fish last night. it's only showing at two theatres, first two shows that we tried going to were both sold out. it's an okay movie, although it's kinda weird to see ewan mcgregor plays an 18-year old. good for him, i know i can never pull that off.
zaid's birthday tomorrow.
